In a remarkable start to the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) World Blind Games, the Pakistan cricket team secured an impressive 18-run victory against their arch-rivals India on Sunday. The match, held at the King Edward’s School ground in Birmingham, showcased the exceptional skills and determination of the visually impaired athletes.
Winning the toss, the India VI team invited Pakistan to bat first. The Pakistani team, known as the Green Shirts, showcased their batting prowess by setting a formidable target. Despite losing eight wickets, they managed to amass a total of 187 runs within the allotted 20 overs. A stellar performance by Muhammad Salman, who scored 50 runs off 31 deliveries, set the tone for Pakistan’s innings. Captain Nisar Ali’s contribution of 46 runs off 33 balls and Badar Munir’s swift 37 off 24 balls further solidified Pakistan’s strong position.
India’s Ajay Kumar Reddy emerged as the standout bowler, claiming four crucial wickets during Pakistan’s innings. Nakula Badanayak also made a significant impact by dismissing three Pakistani batters.
In response, the Indian team faced a challenging task of chasing down Pakistan’s total. Despite their best efforts, they were limited to 169 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs. The match’s momentum reached a pivotal point as India required 38 runs from the last three overs. However, a remarkable 18th over by Pakistan’s Matiullah, where he conceded a mere four runs, proved to be a turning point in the match.
India’s batting lineup witnessed a dramatic collapse, losing three wickets in quick succession, including one run out. Their score plummeted from 150 runs for three wickets to 154 runs for six wickets. Sunil Ramesh of India VI stood out with a commendable performance, contributing 62 runs to the team’s total. Durga Rao Tompaki added 40 runs to his name, displaying the fighting spirit of the Indian team.
Matiullah of Pakistan VI showcased his all-around skills by taking two wickets and adding to Pakistan’s victory. Furthermore, India faced an unfortunate fate as five of their batters were run out during their innings.
