Sajid Sadpara makes history by climbing Mount Everest without oxygen!

Sajid Sadpara scales Mount Everest without supplemental oxygen, making history

Sajid Sadpara, a renowned mountaineer from Pakistan, has created history by successfully scaling Mount Everest without the use of supplemental oxygen and assistance from Sherpas. This achievement marks the first time a Pakistani has reached the world’s highest peak without oxygen support.

Sajid Sadpara has a goal to climb all 14 eight-thousanders, which are the world’s highest peaks, without the use of supplemental oxygen. He has already successfully summited K2 (8,611m), Gasherbrum-I (8,080m), and Gasherbrum-II (8,035m) in Pakistan, as well as Manaslu (8,163m) in Nepal, without oxygen. His father, Mohammad Ali Sadpara, was also a legendary mountaineer who passed away while attempting to summit K2 in 2021.

In addition to Sajid Sadpara’s historic achievement, Pakistani mountaineer Naila Kiani has also scaled Mount Everest, becoming the second woman from Pakistan to reach the summit of the world’s highest peak. The first Pakistani woman to achieve this feat was Samina Baig, who climbed Mount Everest in 2013.

Kiani, a mother of two and a banker in Dubai, is also the first non-Nepalese climber to scale Mount Everest this mountaineering season. She has also become the only Pakistani woman to scale five eight-thousanders, including Annapurna I in Nepal, K2, Gasherbrum I and II, and now Mount Everest, all within the span of two years. Kiani is now planning to climb Lhotse, the fourth tallest mountain in the world, which stands at 8,516 meters.

Sajid Sadpara’s achievement is particularly significant as it was completed without the assistance of Sherpas, who are considered elite mountain climbers and provide logistical and technical support to mountaineers. Sherpas are often relied upon for help with carrying equipment, setting up ropes and fixing lines, and assisting with acclimatization. However, Sajid Sadpara chose to make the ascent solo, relying solely on his own strength and skills.

Climbing Mount Everest without supplemental oxygen is considered an incredible feat of endurance and requires immense physical and mental strength. Supplemental oxygen is often used by mountaineers to increase their oxygen intake at high altitudes, where the air is thin, and the body may struggle to function properly due to the lack of oxygen. However, the use of supplemental oxygen can also have negative side effects, such as headaches, fatigue, and decreased cognitive function.

Sajid Sadpara’s accomplishment has been celebrated widely in Pakistan and around the world. The mountaineer himself shared the news on his Twitter account, saying, “History has been made as 1st Pakistani to be on the top of Everest; Solo, without the use of supplemental oxygen & personal sherpa assistance. It was a dream of his father for Pakistan.” Sadpara has not only fulfilled his late father’s wish but has also made his mark in the world of mountaineering.

Pakistan has a rich history of mountaineering and is home to some of the world’s highest peaks, including K2, which is the second-highest mountain in the world. Mountaineering has become a popular sport in Pakistan, with many aspiring climbers and adventurers looking to test their skills and push their limits on the country’s challenging terrain.
