PM Shehbaz terms court decision as NRO to Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif said on Friday that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan was caught red handed in the corruption of Rs60 billion, and the court’s decision was nothing but an NRO to him.

The prime minister regretted the Supreme Court’s yesterday decision to release PTI Chairman Imran Khan. Shehbaz Sharif recalled that Imran Khan during his era orchestrated false and fake cases against his political opponents but nobody took notice of them.

The PM made these remarks while chairing a meeting of the cabinet members in Islamabad on Friday. The PM emphatically stated to strictly ensure compliance to the law and constitution without fearing for its consequences.

Shehbaz Sharif also said they faced excesses of PTI government with patience and tolerance, adding that  the NAB framed genuine cases against Imran Khan, regretting that the judiciary was now providing protection to him.

He termed May 9 violence acts as the most despicable after the fall of Dhaka, pointing out that the PTI chairman is the planner and instigator of the attacks on public and private properties.

He also recollected that be it the judicial murder of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the assassination of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto or the sentence awarded to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in a fake case, the people resorted to protests but did not ransack the military installations.

He went on to say that the May 9 violent acts amounted to desecration of the sacrifices rendered by the security personnel for the peace and security of the homeland. The country’s interests, he said, could not sacrificed for the ego and narcissism of one person.

The PM was of the view that Pakistan was facing multidimensional challenges and the government was making tireless efforts to cope with the inherited problems. He stated the PTI Chairman through its cipher conspiracy also tried to damage Pakistan’s relations with the United States.

“We engaged with the country to do the damage control,” he added.
