NA Speaker forms committee to probe Najam Saqib’s audio

ISLAMABAD: In a major development, National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf constituted a ten-member special committee to investigate the audio leak of Najam Saqib, the son of former Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar.

The NA speaker formed the committee and issued the formal notification.

The committee, under the notification, would be able to seek assistance of any investigating agency in the course of its inquiry. After investigation, the committee would submit a comprehensive report to the National Assembly.

Muhammad Aslam Bhootani would lead the committee comprising Shahida Akhtar Ali, Muhammad Abu Bakar, Brig. Tahir, Sheikh Rohail Asghar, Syed Hussain Tariq, Naz Baloch, Khalid Magsi, Wajeeha Kamar, and Afzal Dhandla.

Reacting to the development, senior lawyer Advocate Azhar Siddique said, “This is a violation of authority and a joke of Pakistan’s Parliament!! It will be beneficial if the speaker reads the Constitution of Pakistan!.

Najam Saqib’s audio had surfaced, in which he demanded one hundred and twenty-two million rupees in exchange for getting a PTI election ticket.

According to the leaked audio, Najam Saqib allegedly demanded Rs12 million from Uzair in exchange for a party ticket.

One of the leaked audios revealed Najam allegedly asking Abuzar Chadhar to visit his father to express gratitude for a favour, while the other recording captured a heated exchange of words between Najam and Mian Uzair over the amount.
