Qureshi warns of futility in talks if govt fails to shift mindset

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that talks should not be used as a delaying tactic, and if the government’s mindset remained the same, further negotiations would be meaningless.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that they kept what they had to say and what they wanted to achieve on the table during negotiations.

“The government circles made every possible effort to sabotage the talks, see the conversations of Khawaja Asif and Javed Latif before the negotiations, and see the attitude of Maulana Fazlur Rehman. Despite the views and conversations of government representatives, we tried,” said the PTI’s vice chairman.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that while negotiations were ongoing on one side, attacks were being carried out on our homes on the other side.

The PTI vice-chairman said, “Despite the disruptions, we continued negotiations to calm the nation down. We are ready for the May elections. We tried to understand the government’s point of view, and also presented solutions to the legal obstacles within the framework of the constitution,”.

He stated that he gist of all three sessions of talks that took place at the Senate Secretariat would be submitted to the Supreme Court.

“We will apprise the court that there are no good results of the talks with the coalition government,” said Qureshi, adding they would also informed it about what they did in compliance of its orders regarding the talks.

He said that they would ask the court to take action under the Constitution.

“Whatever the Constitution says, you do it,” and urge the nation to defend the Constitution and abide by the Supreme Court’s decision,” said Qureshi, adding that the government could go to any extent in despair, but it could not insult the dignity of the judges of the Supreme Court by blocking them.
