Famous supermodels Gigi Hadid and Bella Hadid have received death threats and abuse due to their criticism of the Israeli government’s actions during the recent conflict in Gaza. They have been outspoken supporters of the Palestinian cause. The Hadid sisters were born to a Palestinian father, Mohamed Hadid, who is a luxury real estate entrepreneur.
In response to the threats, the Hadid family has taken security measures, including changing their phone numbers. Mohamed Hadid is considering working with the FBI to identify those behind these threats.
Some of Gigi Hadid’s Israeli supporters have criticized her for her support of Palestine, which has drawn a lot of attention to her. Notably, she expressed her sorrow for the deaths brought about by the October 7 Hamas attack in Southern Israel, which resulted in the deaths of both Palestinians and Jews.
“I have deep empathy and heartbreak for the Palestinian struggle and life under occupation; it’s a responsibility I hold daily” She also stated clearly that she did not intend for the Palestinians to use violence against Jews.
On her Instagram account, she made a statement disputing the notion that criticizing the Israeli government is not patriotic.
It said, “The way the Israeli government treats Palestinians has nothing Jewish about it. It is not anti-Semitic to criticize the Israeli government, and it is not anti-Hamas to support the Palestinians.”
She addressed opponents who equate anti-Zionism with anti-Semitism in a later Instagram Story.
“There is nothing Jewish about the Israeli government’s treatment of Palestinians. Condemning the Israeli government is not anti-Semitic and supporting Palestinians is not supporting Hamas”.
The Israeli government retaliated by tagging Gigi in a string of pictures from their official Instagram account, asking, “Have you been sleeping the past week?”
The message went on, “Or are you just fine turning a blind eye to Jewish babies being butchered in their homes? “with a picture that appeared to be of a child’s blooded bedroom. “Your silence has been very clear about where you stand. We see you”
Israeli forces launched their most intense assault of Gaza, killing over 3,000 Palestinians and completely besieging the blockaded area under Hamas’ control, infuriating Palestinians on the West Bank.
