Gmail Will Now Translate Your Emails on Phones Too

Gmail’s desktop version has long been equipped with a handy translation feature, but this convenience was missing from the mobile app, leaving users with some advanced features absent.

When trying to understand an email in another language on the mobile app, people often had to copy the text and paste it into Google Translate. Thankfully, this complicated method is becoming a thing of the past. Gmail is now introducing built-in email translations to its mobile app, making the process much simpler.

In a recent announcement on the Workspace Updates blog, Google unveiled its latest enhancement: native translation right within the Gmail smartphone app. Here’s how it works: When you receive an email in a different language, the app will suggest translating the content for you.

Just like the familiar Google Translate, it will automatically figure out the language of the email and provide you with a translation. Currently, the app supports translations for 100 languages, matching the capabilities of the desktop version.

If you don’t see the automatic translation option, don’t worry. You can still do it manually by using the three-dot menu in the app. And if you find that you don’t need translation for certain languages, you have the power to turn off this feature in the settings. On the other hand, if there are languages you always want the app to translate, you can set those preferences too.

This new native translation feature is gradually rolling out to smartphones all around the world. However, it might take a little while, up to two weeks perhaps, before you can access it on your device.

It is making communication across languages much easier with its latest update for mobile phones. No more copying, pasting, or jumping between apps to understand emails in different languages. With the integrated translation feature, Gmail is taking another step towards making our digital communication smoother and more effective. So, keep an eye on your app for this helpful update that will bring us all a little closer, no matter where we are or what language we speak.
