Pakistani Co-Founded AI Startup Cursor Strikes $60 Billion Deal with SpaceX

A major breakthrough in the global tech industry has emerged as AI coding startup Cursor, co-founded by Pakistani entrepreneur Sualeh Asif, has secured a landmark $60 billion acquisition agreement with SpaceX.

According to reports, the agreement gives SpaceX the option to acquire Cursor later this year for $60 billion. If the acquisition does not proceed, SpaceX will instead pay $10 billion as part of a strategic collaboration between the two companies.

In a statement shared on X, SpaceX highlighted that combining Cursor’s advanced AI coding platform with its powerful computing infrastructure would accelerate the development of next-generation AI systems.

Cursor has quickly gained traction in Silicon Valley as one of the leading AI-powered coding tools, alongside companies like OpenAI and Anthropic. The platform enables developers to generate, edit, and optimize code using artificial intelligence, significantly improving productivity.

The company reportedly generates over $1 billion in annualized revenue and has become one of the fastest-growing AI startups globally.

Originally from Karachi, Sualeh Asif completed his early education at Nixor College before moving to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for higher studies.

He also represented Pakistan at the International Mathematical Olympiad from 2016 to 2018. During his time at MIT, he co-founded Anysphere, the company behind Cursor, along with fellow students.

Cursor has seen explosive growth in recent years. The company reached a valuation of $29.3 billion in late 2025 after raising $2.3 billion in a funding round led by major venture capital firms.

Today, the platform is used by millions of developers across more than 50,000 organizations, including major tech companies like Nvidia, Adobe, Uber, and Shopify.

The deal marks a significant moment for Pakistan’s representation in the global technology ecosystem, highlighting the growing impact of Pakistani entrepreneurs in cutting-edge fields like artificial intelligence.
