Yasmin Rashid ‘key character’ in May 9 protests, says Mohsin Naqvi

LAHORE: On May 9, during violent riots, rioters attempted to set fire to planes at the Pakistan Air Force Base (PAF) M.M. Alam in Mianwali, according to Punjab’s Interim Chief Minister, Mohsin Naqvi. He emphasized that most of the people in Mianwali were armed, and he considered the incident to be an attack on Pakistan. It is noteworthy that the rioters targeted the Mianwali Air Base on May 9, which was named after the 1965 war hero Muhammad Mahmood Alam, also known as MM Alam.


During a press conference at CM House in Lahore, Naqvi reported that the PTI rioters burned 108 cars and 26 buildings and damaged safe city cameras. He revealed that PTI woman leader Yasmin Rashid was the key player in the attack on Jinnah House, which had approximately 3400 people outside and 400 people inside, also known as Corps Commander House. He promised to hold those responsible for the May 9 incidents accountable and emphasized that it was a pre-planned and coordinated attack on public and army installations. The CM also maintained that 2 metro stations were burnt during the clashes.


Naqvi lashed out at Zalmay Khalilzad, former US enovy in Afghanistan, whom he claimed was a paid individual tweeting against Pakistan.He acknowledged that the police were instructed not to use firearms and to act within the law if someone trespassed in a government building. He also recognized that the police had complained about facing stones.


The Punjab CM noted that the public had responded positively to advertisements in newspapers and that the government had started depositing Rs0.2 million and Rs0.5 million on tip-off information. He reassured that if anyone had been arrested mistakenly, they would be released from jail. Although it was his mistake to stop police personnel from firing bullets, the Punjab chief executive confirmed that if someone attacked a government building, the police would use force according to the law.


Furthermore, the Rawalpindi Capital City Police Office (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani informed the media that 276 people involved in violent mob attacks on public buildings had been arrested. He maintained that the concerned police registered 17 FIRs and that the person who used petrol to torch the General Headquarters (GHQ) gate had been arrested through the footage. Acccording to Hamdani, the demonstrators aimed to remove the main gate of the GHQ. Furthermore, on Sunday, 26 suspects linked to the GHQ assaults were presented to the press.
