Renowned actor Wahaj Ali has recently spoken out against child labour and abuse, particularly in the case of a young housemaid named Rizwana. The actor, known for his exceptional performance in the ARY Digital serial ‘Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha,’ strongly condemned the torture endured by the minor girl and urged people to realize the pain and injustice caused by making underage children work.
In a heartfelt video message, Wahaj Ali expressed his understanding of the difficult social and economic conditions that lead people to send their children to work to support their families. However, he emphasized that this should not be an excuse to exploit or take advantage of these innocent young souls. Instead, he urged that there are various other ways to help those in need without robbing children of their childhood.
According to reports, the 14-year-old maid, Rizwana, was allegedly subjected to brutal torture by the wife of a civil judge in Islamabad. The girl’s parents filed a case at a local police station, revealing the horrific abuse she had endured.
The accused, Asim Hafeez, serves as a civil judge at the Federal Judicial Academy in Sargodha. It is alleged that his wife tortured Rizwana, accusing her of stealing gold jewellery. The affected maid had been working at the judge’s house for six months, during which she was reportedly not paid any salary.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took cognizance of the heinous incident and demanded a report on the torture case from the caretaker Chief Minister, Mohsin Naqvi. The case garnered significant attention and concern from authorities and the public alike.
Caretaker Health Minister of Punjab, Professor Javed Ikram, raised the possibility of Rizwana being poisoned, although this was yet to be confirmed. Medical examination revealed over 15 torture marks on her face and body, indicating the severity of the abuse she had suffered. The girl was immediately taken to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital for medical assistance and later referred to the Lahore Hospital for further treatment.
