Two Chinese nationals shot by security guard in Karachi: In a Shocking incident Two Chinese nationals were seriously injured on Tuesday morning after being shot by a private security guard at a textile mill located in Karachi’s SITE industrial area. The incident has raised major concerns about the safety of foreign nationals working in Pakistan’s commercial hubs.
According to official sources, the victims had arrived at the factory around 8:00 AM from their residence in DHA to inspect machinery imported from China. During the visit, a security guard identified as Sharifullah, who was employed by a private firm named Executive Security Services, opened fire on the Chinese workers on the first floor of the mill and then fled the scene. The assailant is reportedly a resident of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
One of the injured men sustained six bullet wounds and is currently in critical condition, while the other received two gunshot injuries. Both were immediately shifted to a private hospital for medical treatment. Investigators recovered 15 spent bullet casings from the site, indicating that the shooting was deliberate and possibly pre-planned.
Initial reports suggest a verbal altercation occurred before the attack, but police have yet to confirm the exact motive. DIG South Syed Asad Raza said that the security lapse was evident, as the shooter managed to escape easily without any intervention. Three private guards and a supervisor have been detained for questioning, and a search operation is underway to apprehend the suspect.
In response, the Foreign Office in Islamabad issued a statement expressing deep concern over the incident. It assured that the government remains committed to the safety of Chinese nationals and that all efforts are being made to ensure swift justice. The FO emphasized that Pakistan and China remain close strategic partners and that attacks of this nature will not derail their cooperation.
Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar has ordered a complete audit of private security companies providing services to Chinese experts and other foreigners. He also instructed the police to review the physical and mental fitness of all guards assigned to foreign security duties. The home minister emphasized that only verified, trained, and competent personnel should be deployed for such assignments.
Authorities are also probing whether proper background checks were conducted by the Special Branch of Sindh Police, as mandated by existing protocols for foreign protection. The Executive Security Services firm, which supplied more than 100 guards to the textile mill, is now under review for possible violations of safety procedures and negligence.
The incident has once again highlighted vulnerabilities in the protection framework for foreign nationals working on critical projects in Pakistan. As investigations continue, the government has reiterated its resolve to strengthen security protocols and hold those responsible accountable.
