Teenage boy Kills 9 in Shooting at Belgrade School

On Wednesday, May 3, a 14-year-old boy opened fire at school in Belgrade, Serbia, killing eight children and a security guard, and injuring at least six other children and one teacher. The assailant used his father’s gun in the shooting, which took place during regular school hours.

The motive for the shooting is currently unknown, and police have not released any further details. The shooter, a seventh-grade student at the school, was immediately apprehended by police, who arrived on the scene shortly after receiving a call about the shooting.

The incident has shocked and saddened the entire nation, as well as the international community. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and promised swift justice for the perpetrator.

“Serbia is in shock. This is a tragedy beyond words,” Vucic said in a statement. “We will do everything in our power to ensure that justice is served and that such a heinous act never happens again.”

The shooting has once again brought to light the issue of gun violence and access to firearms in Serbia. While the country has strict gun laws, many firearms left over from the wars of the 1990s are still in circulation, and there have been previous incidents of gun violence in schools and other public places.

The tragedy has also raised questions about mental health and support for young people in Serbia. According to some reports, the shooter had been experiencing mental health issues, and there have been calls for increased resources and attention to be given to mental health support in schools and communities.

In the aftermath of the shooting, parents and community members have rallied together to support the families of the victims and demand action to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future. Many have called for tighter gun control measures and increased resources for mental health support and education.

Meanwhile, the international community has offered its condolences and support to Serbia during this difficult time. The European Union released a statement expressing its solidarity with the victims and their families, and offering assistance to the Serbian authorities.

“The European Union stands with Serbia in this difficult moment,” the statement read. “We offer our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and stand ready to assist the Serbian authorities in any way possible.”

The shooting at the school is a tragic reminder of the devastating impact of gun violence, and the urgent need for action to prevent such incidents from occurring. It is essential that governments and communities around the world work together to address this issue, and to ensure that every child and young person has the right to a safe and secure education.

As the investigation into the shooting continues, our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims, and with the entire nation of Serbia.
