Mustafa Khokhar warns about the danger of political turmoil in Pakistan
Former senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar has warned that the current political situation in Pakistan has come “dangerously” close to a civil war. The credibility of institutions, including parliament and politics, has ended, he said on Friday, adding that he had been drawing attention to this dangerous situation from the platform of Reimagining Pakistan.
Mustafa Khokhar, who parted ways with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in December last year, weeks after stepping down as senator, blamed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), and the establishment for the situation in the country. Pakistan has been struggling with political turmoil for years, with protests, allegations of corruption, and military interventions. The country has a long history of coups and military rule, and many believe that the military continues to wield significant influence over the government.
The current situation was triggered by the arrest of Imran Khan, who was taken into custody on May 9, prompting violent protests across the country. Protestors demanded Khan’s release and attacked sensitive national institutions, buildings, and civil and military properties, leading to widespread vandalism and arson.
Mustafa Khokhar’s warning comes at a time when Pakistan is facing multiple challenges, including a struggling economy, rising inflation, and a surge in Covid-19 cases. The country is also facing increasing pressure from the international community to take stronger action against militant groups, with the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) threatening to blacklist the country if it fails to address concerns about money laundering and terrorist financing.
To save Pakistan from becoming a failed state, Mustafa Khokhar called for all parties to sit together immediately. This is not the first time that Khokhar has spoken out about the need for political parties to work together to address the country’s challenges. In a tweet last year, he called on the government to stop the politics of revenge and focus on the people’s problems.
Many in Pakistan agree with Mustafa Khokhar’s assessment of the current situation, with some warning that the country is on the brink of collapse. Others, however, argue that the situation is not as dire as he suggests and that the government and political parties need to work together to address the country’s challenges.

The situation in Pakistan is complex and multifaceted, and there are no easy solutions. However, it is clear that the country cannot afford to continue down its current path. The government, political parties, and other stakeholders must work together to address the challenges facing the country and prevent it from descending into chaos. Pakistan has the potential to be a prosperous and thriving nation, but this will only be possible if its leaders can put aside their differences and work together for the good of the country. The situation is urgent, and action must be taken immediately to prevent Pakistan from becoming a failed state.
