‘SC buried doctrine of necessity,’ PTI welcomes elections verdict

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court three-member bench regarding elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakthunkhwa.

“The top court has buried the doctrine of necessity,” said PTI Vice-Chairman Shah Mahmood while talking to the reporters outside the apex court on Tuesday.

The reaction came after the Supreme Court, in its verdict in the election delay case, declared the electoral body’s decision to conduct polls on October 8 as “unconstitutional”, and directed to conduct polls in Punjab on May 14.

The PTI leader said that the top court restored the dignity of the Constitution and buried those who were creating hurdles in the way of the democracy and the rule of law.

“It is the historic moment of the Pakistani politics. I would say it is the watershed moment in the country,” said that it was the victory for the justices like Justice Cornelius and defeat to those who were on the path of Justice Munir and were following the idea of necessity.

He also thanked the legal fraternity for their support to the top court and the CJP and for the supremacy of the Constitution.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi also congratulated Barrister Ali Zafar over victory in the legal battle.

He also congratulated PTI Chairman Imran Khan over the legal victory as he established himself a great leader despite that he was attacked.

He stated that it was Imran Khan who motivated the PTI leaders and supporters to continue struggle for the rule of law. Qureshi also expressed gratitude for the ILF for their efforts.

Addressing the political parties, Shah Mahmood Quereshi invited the political rival sto come and sit together and ensure free and fair elections. He stated that the court gave them an opportunity.

He also told the ECP that the ECP was now free of all the pressures, urging it to fulfill its responsibility.

Qureshi asked the PTI workers and the supporters to go to every corner of the country and start working for the PTI government.

Responding to a question about the statement of Bilawal Bhutto regarding martial law, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Bilawal’s statement reflected the difference between the present day PPP and the PPP of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto.
