PTI’s Ali Amin Gandapur Elected KP CM

Ali Amin Gandapur, a leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja after securing the position of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) chief minister. Gandapur, an independent candidate, won with 90 votes, while his opponent, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Dr. Ibadullah Khan, received only 16 votes.

Sunni Ittehad Council’s (SIC) members supported Gandapur, while Dr. Ibadullah had backing from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Parliamentarians (PTI-P).

PTI founder Imran Khan had nominated Gandapur as the party’s candidate for KP’s leader of the house. Gandapur previously served as the federal minister for Kashmir affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan in the PTI government at the Centre from October 2018 to April 2022.

He was a member of the KP Assembly from 2013 to 2018, holding the position of provincial minister for revenue. The CM-designate earned his BA honors from Gomal University in Dera Ismail Khan.
