Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday wrote a letter to the cabinet division and sought complete details of the federal cabinet’s meeting held after the on the Supreme Court verdict and the subsequent political situation.
PTI leader Farrukh Habib wrote the letter to the cabinet division and said that they came to know through the media reports that the federal cabinet rejected the Supreme Court’s verdict regarding elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Farrukh Habib, the PTI Central Secretary Information, filed the plea under the Right to Information Act and asked the cabinet division to provide all the details regarding the agenda of the meeting, the participants, discussion and the decision taken there.
The move surfaced after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held meeting with the parliamentary leaders of the coalition partners and said that the Supreme Court did not hear the political parties’ lawyers and rejected the government’s plea to form full court.
He also said that they would file another resolution in the National Assembly on the Supreme Court verdict. He regretted that he did not witness such situation ever before in his entire political career. The decision of the 4-3 was also ignored, he said, while chairing the meeting.
According to the sources, JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman asked the government to adopt tough stance amid the orders of the Supreme Court for elections in Punjab. The sources said that the coalition partners decided to rectify their decision against the Supreme Court’s verdict through the approval of the parliament.
Nawaz Sharif, the PML-N Supremo, insisted to file reference against the SC three-member bench comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Muneeb Akhtar.
On April 4, the Supreme Court three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial rejected the decision of the Election Commission and fixed May 14 as the date to hold elections in Punjab. The Top court also set April 10 as the date for submission of the nomination papers. The apex court also directed the Federal government to provide funds to the ECP for elections in Punjab and also provide security.
