LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) announced to mark ‘Yaum-e-Tashakur’ today after winning the legal battle against the coalition government for elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakthunkhwa.
The PTI government set specific places to mark the day across the country.
Taking to Twitter, the PTI said, “The entire nation is grateful for the Supreme Court’s decision in favor of the supremacy of the constitution. In this regard, on Wednesday after the night prayer, the whole country will observe a day of gratitude at designated places. The nation will participate wholeheartedly and send a message that they stand with justice and the constitution,”.
In a video message, Imran Khan said earlier, “After evening prayer yesterday, the whole nation came out and expressed their gratitude for the Supreme Court’s decision, showing that we stand with them,”.
PTI made this decision after it won the legal battle against the coalition government for elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakthunkhwa. The Supreme Court set aside the decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan and fixed May 14 as the date for elections in Punjab.
The apex court also directed the federal government to provide funds to the ECP and ordered it for security. The top court fixed April 10 as the date for submission of nomination papers and April 20 for electoral symbols while the elections tribunal was bound to decide matters on April 17.
On other hand, the coalition government rejected the apex court verdict on the elections case, questioning that how the three-member bench could deliver judgment against the decision of four-member bench.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif later on the floor of the assembly likened the decision of the apex court with the judicial murder of Zulfqiar Ali Bhutto.
He also urged the top court to hear the reference against judicial murder of former Prime Minister Zulfqiar Ali Bhutto and right the wrong of the history.
