Pakistan Issues Heavy Rain and Flood Warning From July 6 to 10
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an important alert for citizens as the country braces for widespread rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms starting from the night of July 6 and continuing until July 10.
The PMD, through the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), has warned that this wet spell could bring heavy to very heavy rainfall at multiple locations, heightening the risk of flash floods, urban flooding, and landslides, especially in northern and hilly regions.
Which Areas Will Be Affected?
According to the forecast, rain-wind/thundershowers are likely to hit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Balochistan, Sindh, Kashmir, and Islamabad. Specific areas expected to receive isolated heavy downpours include:
- Upper Punjab and the Potohar region
- Islamabad
- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
- Kashmir
- Northern Balochistan
The PMD has highlighted that Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and D.G. Khan are at high risk of flash floods due to heavy rainfall.
Landslide & Urban Flooding Threat
The heavy rains could trigger landslides and mudslides in the vulnerable mountainous zones of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, and Kashmir, leading to possible road blockages and travel delays.
Meanwhile, urban flooding is possible in low-lying parts of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera, and Peshawar. Residents in these cities are advised to take all necessary precautions.

- Islamabad: Cloudy weather with rain, wind, and thunderstorms expected, with a chance of isolated heavyfalls.
- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Most districts including Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Shangla, Buner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Swabi, Peshawar, Mardan, Hangu, Kurram, Kohat, Karak, Waziristan, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan may receive significant rain and thunderstorms.
- Punjab: Widespread rain with heavyfalls expected in Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, and Dera Ghazi Khan, among other districts.
- Sindh: Mostly hot and humid conditions but rain/thundershowers possible in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Badin, Thatta, Mithi, Sanghar, Dadu, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Larkana, Kashmore, Shikarpur, and coastal Karachi may see drizzle.
- Balochistan: Barkhan, Kohlu, Musakhel, Dera Bugti, Loralai, Bolan, Zhob, Ziarat, Quetta, Kalat, Khuzdar, Awaran, Kharan, Lasbella may experience rain and thunderstorms.
- Kashmir & Gilgit-Baltistan: Cloudy weather with rain and isolated heavyfalls expected in Kashmir. Gilgit-Baltistan will see partly cloudy conditions with chances of rain.

- Islamabad: 131 mm at Saidpur, 85 mm at Zero Point
- Jhelum: 103 mm, Mangla: 81 mm, Lahore: 61 mm
- KP: Lower Dir 25 mm, Balakot 20 mm, Peshawar Airport 14 mm
- Azad Kashmir: Garhi Dupatta 15 mm
- Balochistan: Lasbella 14 mm, Khuzdar 6 mm
