Amid relentless monsoon rains and urban flooding across Punjab, the Pakistan Army helicopter rescue Rawalpindi to save a family trapped in rising floodwaters on Chakri Road, officials confirmed Thursday.
The swift and coordinated response came as monsoon downpours intensified, causing flash floods in multiple low-lying areas of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. According to ISPR (Inter-Services Public Relations), the trapped family had been stranded on the roof of their home after floodwaters surged through the Chakri Road area, leaving ground access impossible.
A Daring Air Rescue Operation
Responding to the emergency call, a Pakistan Army helicopter was immediately dispatched to the scene. Video footage shared online showed dramatic scenes as army personnel airlifted the family to safety, navigating through turbulent weather conditions.
The Pakistan Army helicopter rescue in Rawalpindi has been widely praised as a testament to the military’s commitment to civilian safety during natural disasters. The rescued individuals, including women and children, were transported to a nearby relief camp for medical checks and shelter.
“The army remains on high alert to respond to emergencies during the ongoing monsoon,” said a military spokesperson.
Urban Flooding Paralyzes Life in Rawalpindi
The rescue mission comes as Rawalpindi and surrounding regions reel from devastating rainfall, with more than 230mm of rain recorded in some parts of the city. The heavy rain has triggered widespread urban flooding, road closures, and power outages.
Authorities have declared a rain emergency, deploying Pakistan Army units, Rescue 1122, and WASA teams to conduct relief operations across flooded zones.
According to Rawalpindi’s district administration, areas near Nullah Leh remain at high risk as the water level continues to rise. Residents are being urged to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel as more rain is forecast.
