In an unfortunate incident in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district, a Frontier Corps soldier sacrificed his life while engaging in a firefight with terrorists. The exchange of fire resulted in the elimination of one terrorist, who met his end during the encounter. The brave soldier, identified as Sepoy Shafiq Ur Rehman, hailed from Dera Ismail Khan and displayed remarkable valor in the face of adversity.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that the security forces are actively conducting operations to clear the area of any remaining terrorists. This dedication to eradicating the menace of terrorism highlights the resolute commitment of Pakistan’s security forces, with the sacrifices of our courageous soldiers serving as a testament to their unwavering determination.
Similarly, on May 17, two terrorists were neutralized during an intelligence-based operation in the Janikhel area of Bannu district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The ISPR revealed that these militants were actively involved in perpetrating acts of terror against both security forces and innocent civilians. It is important to note that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an outlawed militant group, had terminated its ceasefire with the government in November.
Tragically, last month, six army soldiers were martyred in a clash with militants in the Dir Duni area of North Waziristan district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In a recent press briefing, the Director General of ISPR, Maj Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, shared that over the past year, 293 individuals had lost their lives, while 521 had sustained injuries in 436 terrorist incidents across the country. Within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 192 people were martyred in 219 acts of terror, while Balochistan witnessed 80 fatalities in 206 incidents. Punjab recorded 14 deaths in five attacks, and Sindh reported seven casualties in six terrorism-related incidents.
The DG ISPR further highlighted that 8,269 intelligence-based operations were conducted by the army and law enforcement agencies in the previous year. These operations resulted in the arrest of 1,378 suspected terrorists and the elimination of 157 others. Additionally, 137 security personnel lost their lives, and 117 were injured in anti-terror operations during the ongoing year.
These incidents emphasize the ongoing threat of terrorism faced by Pakistan and the remarkable bravery displayed by the country’s security forces. Through their relentless efforts, these forces are determined to safeguard the nation and its citizens from the perils of terrorism.
