KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party leader Nabil Gabol has caused a stir on the social media with his controversial statement.
The PPP MNA has come under intense criticism for his recent comments on various podcasts, which have been described as misogynistic. After his statement, the keyboard warriors lashed out at the veteran politician.
In the viral statement, Gabol said that there is an English saying that goes, “if rape is imminent, just enjoy it.” When the host expressed disagreement with the statement, Gabol stood by it, insisting that it is a legitimate saying.
Gabol went on to argue that if someone is powerless to resist rape, they should simply accept it and enjoy the experience. He also suggested that those who do resist may be viewed as weak or unassertive, and may be subject to further abuse as a result.
Gabol’s remarks have been widely condemned on the microblogging website.
Commenting on the issue, Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari said that Gabol’s comments are his personal statement, not the stance of the party.
Taking to Twitter, Bakhtawar Bhutto wrote, “His (repulsive) rhetoric belongs to his individual only & is in noway a representation of our party. Incase it wasn’t already abundantly obvious- we absolutely & unequivocally stand for the rights & protection of women. Misogyny has no space in our religion nor our party.”
Fatima Bhutto also joined the keyboard warriors and condemned the statement of Nabil Gabol. Dua took to Twitter and wrote, “Utter filth. Nabil Gabol exposes the absolute criminal mindset of Sindh’s government. He has done nothing for Lyari, for the people he supposedly represents, and laughs while talking of such violence. Horrendous.”
