Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended congratulations to Shehbaz Sharif for being sworn in as Pakistan’s 24th premier. The statement, posted on Modi’s official social media handle, conveyed best wishes to Shehbaz. President Arif Alvi administered the oath to Shehbaz after he was elected prime minister on Sunday.

Shehbaz, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president, secured 201 votes against his opponent Omar Ayub Khan, backed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-supported Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), who received 92 votes.
This marks Shehbaz’s second term as premier after his earlier stint from April 2022 to August 2023.
