‘Do whatever you want,’: Dares Maryam, saying elections will take place but ‘not before time’

RAWALPINDI: Strongly reacting to the Supreme Court three-member bench about elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior vice-president Maryam Nawaz said the election would be held but not before time.

“It is written in the Constitution that the elections will be held on time, and we also say that the elections will be held on time,  but not before the time, because elections before the time suit someone. Some mad person has made a decision and it will not happen that the whole system starts following him,” said Maryam Nawaz while addressing the lawyers’ convention in Rawalpindi on Wednesday.

Maryam made it clear that “Do whatever you want but nothing will move in the country on the saying of a person who wants unrest across the country.”

Her remarks came a day after the Supreme Court three-member bench set aside the ECP decision and fixed May 14 as the date for elections in Punjab.

Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, Federal Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and others were present there.

Criticizing the judges of the top courts, Maryam said that “you should get your names written among those judges whose names like Justice Nasirul Mulk are honored. Don’t get your names written among those who do not go to the marriage ceremony so that they will face the people,”.

She also lashed out Imran Khan saying that Imran Khan claimed popularity but he would fall down if three to four judges’ support was taken away.

“The popular people do not need facilitators,” said Maryam Nawaz.

The PML-N senior vice-president also criticized the apex court by mentioning the names of Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Mazhar Ali Akbar Naqvi. She stated that there was no election petition and no political party but they asked the chief justice to take suo motu notice.

Maryam said that the Chief Justice later took the suo motu and when the fellow judges objected to the decision of 4-3 they made the decision and took over the role of the finance ministry, ministry of defense, election commission, prime minister and also the role of the parliament.

“If you want to do politics then the parliament can do the legal decisions,:” she said. She went on to say that the CJP should have consulted the fellow judges.

She also said, “Unlike the political parties, you do not have ideology and even then you have failed to develop consensus. Consensus is not taking place just because a person is being imposed again ,”.

But, she said, she wanted to make it clear that it is not 2018.

She also directly addressed CJP Bandial, saying that why the dictators were not called “Sicilian mafia” and her father was disqualified in the fake cases.

She said that she read the tickers on TV and came to know that “CJP Bandial got emotional but my question is why did he not get emotional when an elected prime minister was ousted just for no crime,”.

She said, “You should have been emotional at that time when Rana Sanaullah was booked in a fake narcotics case.

The PML-N senior vice-president said why the CJP not got emotional when Imran Khan was imposed through the fake votes in 2018. She stated that she remained the NAB custody and nobody got emotional.

“Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui stood up against those who were against the justice. Why did you not get emotional when Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui was removed and his reference was still pending,” she added.

The PML-N senior vice president while directly addressing CJP Umar Ata Bandial and said, “Do you know the worth of going to the jail for the truth? I went through the imprisonment. The path of truth is not easy,”. She was referring to the observation of the CJP that “Those who remained in jails were now delivering the speeches”.

She stated that the people who did not have any ideology did not come out of their rooms.

“You should have also mentioned the fake cases registered against Nawaz Sharif and others. I appeared before the courts for 150 times. Which is that court where the PML-N did not appear?,” said the Maryam Nawaz.

She stated that they faced fake cases, underwent the punishment and jail, and finally emerged clear of the charges levelled against them.

“I watched TV when Pinki Peerni was summoned but it was said that she was not a public office holder. So, tell me I was office holder when I was arrested by the NAB,” said the PML-N leader.

She also talked about Tyrian case as well as foreign funding case against Imran Khan.

“You and your facilitators know that he [Imran] are accused. The judiciary knows,” said Maryam, lashing out at the judiciary for granting bails to Imran Khan in multiple cases.

“I remained disqualified for six years, so don’t make us fear of disqualification. I think you are habitual of such person who appear before the courts amid security shields,”  said Maryam.

Referring to the audio between former CJP Saqib Nisar and Advocate Tariq Rahim, Maryam Nawaz said that she never feared and was ready to face even the disqualification.

Maryam Nawaz also criticized the bench which was hearing the CCPO Dogar’s case, raising a question as to why they suddenly asked the CJP to take suo motu notice.

She stated that the consensus was not taking place as one person was being imposed again on the system.

The PML-N leader also attacked the SC bench by saying that why the PDM leaders, the bar councils were not heard and only Asad Umar, who is not given important by his own party, was heard. She said the PTI lawyers were heard.

She also asked the CJP as to why the suo motu notice was not taken when audio leaked surfaced on the social media and the image of the judiciary was targeted.
