Lawyers gather outside SC to express solidarity with CJP Bandial

Islamabad: A large number of lawyers gathered outside the premises of the Supreme Court of Pakistan to express solidarity with Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial.

The lawyers gathered at the moment when the Supreme Court is seized with the hearing of an important case of elections delay case.

“The Supreme Court is under attack. The CJP is under attack. His family is also being threatened,” said a lawyer, adding that they reached there to express solidarity with the CJP.

The lawyers reached there despite blockage of roads and entry points in the Red Zone area of the federal capital.

The leaders of the political parties also started reaching there.

However, the Supreme Court spokesperson issued a statement and said that the irrelevant people would not be allowed entry into the premises, saying that the people whose cases were fixed for hearing could enter the building.

A larger number of police and Rangers personnel are present there outside the Supreme Court building.

PTI leader Hammad Azhar, Fawad Chaudhary, Azam Swati and others were spotted among the lawyers.

The latest reports suggested that the entry points of Red Zone of the federal capital were blocked.

Interestingly, Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial was hearing the routine cases when PTI leader Fawad Chaudhary appeared before him and submitted that the roads and entry points of the red zone were blocked. He said that the lawyers were being stopped from coming to the Supreme Court.

“It seems as if we live in Gaza,” said Fawad Chaudhary, referring to the bars and restrictions on the roads of the federal capital.

“The entry points of Red Zone have been blocked and the quarrels are taking place at these places,” said Fawad, asking the CJP to take notice. He said that it was right of the lawyers that they could come to any court.

“If you have called the lawyers then you should talk to them,” said the CJP addressing the PTI leader.

On it, Fawad Chaudhary said that they did not call the lawyers to come there.

At this, Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial observed that the government and the local administration was making arrangements.

“This is the problem of the executive. And if you have any problem you file an application,” he remarked.

The CJP also expressed surprise over word “Gaza” used by the PTI leader, asking him that what did that mean. On it, Fawad Chaudhary said that if he had any problem he could file the petition.

The CJP remarked that every lawyer did not need to come there

Islamabad High Court Bar Association President Shoaib Shaheen also filed an application in the Supreme Court, stating that the roads were blocked and the lawyers were barred from coming there.

“What happened on May 25 is clear?,” said Shoaib Shaheen, asking the court to order the authorities for removal of the barriers and blockades.
