Lahore Police Arrest Man for Abusing Pigeons in Johar Town
Lahore: In a disturbing incident highlighting rising animal cruelty cases in Pakistan, Lahore police have arrested a man in Johar Town for Lahore pigeon abuse.
The suspect, identified as Alam Sher, reportedly forced pigeons to endure brutal mistreatment for entertainment and social media popularity. According to police reports, Sher encouraged people to take part in a cruel “game” where pigeons were thrown violently into the air, offering cash prizes to participants based on how high the helpless birds could be tossed.
The shocking acts came to light when Traffic Warden Shama Muhammad Jameel filed a formal complaint under animal protection laws, sparking swift action from the local police.
During a raid at the suspect’s premises, officers from the Police Animal Rescue Centre rescued 80 to 90 pigeons, many of them in poor health. Five pigeons were found with serious injuries to their claws, while 10 to 15 more were discovered exhausted and dehydrated due to prolonged neglect.
The rescued birds have been shifted to a dedicated animal rescue centre for urgent medical care and rehabilitation.
This case comes shortly after another incident in Johar Town, where a local social media influencer was accused of abusing exotic pets and keeping them in unsafe conditions.
Animal rights activists and officials have condemned these repeated acts of cruelty, calling for stricter enforcement of animal welfare laws and stronger public awareness to protect vulnerable animals.
Officials stressed that the Lahore pigeon abuse case is not just about violating animal rights but reflects deeper societal issues about compassion, empathy, and how animals are treated for human amusement.
The investigation into the case remains ongoing, and authorities have indicated that more charges may be filed depending on the final findings.
