Lahore: Joint Investigation Team (JIT), constituted to probe the alleged attacks of the PTI’s workers on the police personnel and damaging the police vehicles in the operation in Zaman Park, summoned party’s chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan at Capital Police Officer Lahore today.
The JIT also summoned the other PTI leaders to explain their positions in the cases registered against them over charges of attacking the police personnel, pelting stones and throwing petrol bombs on them besides damaging the Elite vehicle.
The JIT directed Imran Khan to appear before it on 1pm today.
On other hand, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhary took to Twitter and said that they challenged the JIT before the Lahore High Court.
He wrote, “The same scenes that happened in Masjid Aqsa today were on the streets of Lahore, we are being asked to appear in the JIT of CCPO Lahore, who is the main culprit of the Zul Shah murder case, who will investigate who killed Bil Shah? This JIT has been challenged in the Lahore High Court,”.
The development took place a day after Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) extended till April 13 bail in three cases registered against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and others under terrorism charges.
ATC Judge Abhar Gull heard the case in her chamber and passed the order after the PTI chairman appeared before it.
Joint Investigation Team (JIT) head SSP Imran Kishwar was also present there and Imran Khan also appeared before him.
The JIT head handed over a questionnaire to the PTI chief and asked him to submit reply.
After appearance of the PTI chief, the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) extended his bail till April 13.
The Lahore police booked the PTI leaders under charges of rioting, violence against the police, terrorism, attempted murder, robbery and snatching weapons.
Police registered one case case with Race Course Police station under terrorism charges and attacking the police besides having illegal weapons in their possession. The FIR said that the senior leadership of PTI had invited armed persons from the area. It said that during assault on the police, 13 police officers including a DSP were injured due to stone pelting.
The police nominated 102 workers in the case and arrested 76. According to the police, they recovered eight rifles, hundreds of bullets and petrol bombs from PTI workers.
The police registered the second FIR against the PTI workers over charges of torturing constable Shafique. They said that 40 PTI leaders tortured him when he was on his way back to home from duty.
The PTI leaders were booked in the third case for destroying a vehicle of the Elite Force officials and forcing it go into canal. The vehicle got damaged as it fell into the canal. The police inserted provisions of terrorism, attempted murder, dacoity, saying that they the angry PTI workers snatched their rifles, cell phones and bulletproof jackets.
