Syed Aminul Haque, the Federal Minister for IT and Telecom, has announced an exciting plan: to bring Apple to Pakistan. During a press briefing on the mobile manufacturing policy, the minister shared that the IT Ministry has set its sights on attracting Apple to establish a presence in the country.
Haque highlighted that Samsung and Nokia have already taken steps to set up their assembly plants in Pakistan, marking significant progress in the mobile manufacturing sector. With these successes under its belt, the IT Ministry is now turning its attention towards Apple, a globally renowned tech giant.
To facilitate this ambitious endeavor, the IT Ministry has tasked the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) with enlisting consultants. These consultants will be responsible for conducting a comprehensive market study on 5G technology, working closely with all stakeholders to gather insights and provide recommendations. The study aims to pave the way for the adoption and implementation of advanced 5G technology in Pakistan.
Haque emphasized that the government’s role should be that of a facilitator rather than an investor in the IT sector. He stressed the importance of protecting the sector from potential hurdles imposed by regulatory bodies such as the Federal Board of Revenue and the State Bank of Pakistan.
Discussing recent achievements, Haque noted a positive trend in IT exports during the months of May and June 2023, a contrast to the declining exports observed in other ministries during the same period. He highlighted the ongoing efforts to expedite projects supported by the Universal Services Fund, aiming to complete 83 projects by the end of the year.
Addressing concerns related to the telecom sector, Haque urged the government to collaborate in upgrading the industry’s infrastructure to ensure the delivery of high-quality services to the public. He reaffirmed the IT Ministry’s commitment to resolving challenges faced by the sector.

As Pakistan sets its sights on welcoming Apple, the nation’s IT sector enters a new phase of growth and innovation, positioning itself as a significant player on the global technology stage.
