The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is facing criticism for omitting cricketing icon Imran Khan from a video showcasing the history of the sport. Imran Khan, now 70, is a former cricket legend who rose to national prominence by leading Pakistan to victory in the Cricket World Cup of 1992.
Imran Khan’s journey transcended cricket, as he transitioned from being a cricket star to a prominent political figure, serving as the Prime Minister of Pakistan from 2018 to 2022.
However, Khan’s legacy has been marred by his recent legal troubles. He is currently incarcerated due to corruption charges, stemming from the Toshakhana case. In a court ruling, he was sentenced to three years in prison. Additionally, the election commission subsequently barred him from seeking political office for a period of five years.
The Pakistan Cricket Board’s decision to exclude Imran Khan from their video highlighting cricket’s history sparked immediate backlash from the Pakistani public. Many individuals voiced their discontent on the board’s official social media accounts, highlighting Khan’s significant contributions to the sport.
Imran Khan’s cricketing achievements are indeed noteworthy. He participated in 88 Test matches and 175 One Day Internationals (ODIs) for Pakistan during his illustrious cricketing career. With batting and bowling averages of 37 and 22 respectively, Khan stood out as one of the premier all-rounders of his era, alongside luminaries like Ian Botham, Richard Hadlee, and Kapil Dev.
Notably, in the final decade of his international cricketing career, Imran Khan excelled, playing 51 Test matches with a remarkable batting average of 50 and a bowling average of 19.
One of his defining moments occurred in 1987 when he captained Pakistan to their first-ever series victory in England. However, the pinnacle of his career was the 1992 World Cup triumph, where he led the Pakistani team to secure the championship trophy.
