The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has once again chosen former team captain Inzamam-ul-Haq as the chief selector, according to an announcement made on Monday.
This is not the first time that Inzamam-ul-Haq has taken on the role of chief selector. He previously held the position from 2016 to 2019. During his earlier tenure, he played a pivotal role in identifying and selecting emerging talents like Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab Khan, Muhammad Nawaz, and Imam-ul-Haq.
Recently, Inzamam-ul-Haq was also added to the technical committee, joining forces with Misbah-ul-Haq and Muhammad Hafeez.
In his renewed role, he faces the challenging task of assembling a competitive team for the upcoming Asia Cup, which is just around the corner. Additionally, he will be responsible for naming the squad that will represent Pakistan in the World Cup scheduled to take place in India during October and November of 2023.
Haq’s cricketing accomplishments are nothing short of remarkable. He stands out as the sole Pakistani batter to have amassed more than 20,000 runs in international matches. Notably, he also holds the distinction of being the only Pakistani player to have scored over 10,000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs), culminating his ODI career in 2007 with an impressive tally of 11,739 runs.
In the Test format, Inzamam-ul-Haq accumulated a substantial 8,830 runs, showcasing his exceptional skills and commitment to the game. Even in the relatively shorter format of the game, he managed to contribute, tallying 11 runs in his sole T20 International appearance.
His immense experience shines through as he boasts a remarkable track record of participating in a staggering 500 international matches, making him a highly seasoned and respected figure in the world of cricket.
