Amidst his ongoing legal troubles and multiple convictions, Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has opposed the idea of seeking relief through a presidential pardon from President Arif Alvi, as reported by The News on Tuesday.
PTI’s Information Secretary, Raoof Hasan, mentioned that Khan has conveyed to President Alvi not to consider any requests for pardoning his convictions, despite demands from various quarters, including social media. Hasan emphasized that although the president holds the constitutional power to pardon court sentences, Khan would not accept such a pardon.
Last year, the Islamabad High Court suspended Khan’s sentence in the Toshakhana case, but he faced convictions in three other cases by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), a cipher case, and an un-Islamic nikah case, receiving sentences of 14, 10, and seven years, respectively.
