Islamabad, Pakistan – In a recent development, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has granted an extension of interim bail to Imran Khan, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), until June 8. This decision comes in the backdrop of two cases where Khan is facing charges related to inciting violence and sedition.
Imran Khan, a former prime minister of Pakistan, received respite as the high court exempted him from appearing in court for the day, further easing his legal situation.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) conducted a hearing to consider the bail applications submitted in relation to the charges of inciting rebellion in institutions and attempted murder.
Representing Imran Khan, his legal counsels Barrister Gohar and Ali Bukhari appeared before IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, accompanied by Advocate General Islamabad Barrister Jahangir Jadoon and officials from the Islamabad police.
During the proceedings, Khan’s lawyers expressed their intention to request an exemption from his court appearance for the day, in addition to the bail extension.
The IHC, taking into account the request, granted the exemption and extended Imran Khan’s bail until June 8 for both cases.
Earlier, Imran Khan had approached the IHC seeking the dismissal of a First Information Report (FIR) lodged against him at the Ramna Police Station in the federal capital, which accused him of inciting rebellion in state institutions.
In a previous hearing, IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq had summoned the police and the district magistrate, who filed the complaint, to personally appear in court during the next hearing.
Faisal Chaudhary Advocate, who was representing Imran Khan, appealed to the court to temporarily halt the enforcement of the First Information Report (FIR) until the subsequent hearing.
Last week, the IHC issued an order prohibiting authorities from arresting Imran Khan in any case, including undisclosed ones, filed against him anywhere in the country until May 15.
The extension of Imran Khan’s interim bail provides temporary relief as the legal proceedings continue. The court will meticulously examine the merits of the cases and subsequently make decisions accordingly.
