DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Press Conference in Peshawar
PESHAWAR: Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry addressed an important press conference at the Corps Headquarters in Peshawar on Friday, focusing on matters of national security, the regional border situation, and ongoing developments affecting Pakistan’s defense strategy.
The high-profile briefing comes at a time when tensions in the region remain high following increased cross-border incidents and intensified militant activity along the western frontier. Security analysts believe the DG ISPR’s remarks will set the tone for Pakistan’s security policy in the coming months.
Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif reiterated that Pakistan’s defense development strategy is rooted in indigenous capability enhancement and technological modernization. Referring to his recent interview with Bloomberg, he emphasized that Pakistan seeks to incorporate the most effective and economical platforms rather than engage in any arms race with neighboring countries.
“Our development strategy has always been to induct the most effective, efficient, and economic platforms and technology,” he said. “We are open to all sorts of technology from both Eastern and Western sources, provided it serves our national interest.”
He reaffirmed that Pakistan’s military posture remains defensive and responsible, underscoring that the country’s defense budget is only a fraction of India’s. “We don’t have the luxury of unlimited resources at our disposal,” he noted, stressing that Pakistan’s focus is on maintaining credible deterrence while prioritizing economic stability.
Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif also dismissed Indian claims regarding past aerial engagements, asserting that no Pakistani aircraft was downed during the conflict. He added that Pakistan has “never manipulated or concealed facts,” highlighting the armed forces’ transparency and professionalism.
The DG ISPR is expected to share further insights into Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts, internal security, and strategic partnerships in the days ahead as part of the ongoing defense briefings.
