Dell Lays Off 12,500 Employees to Prioritize AI

Dell has announced a significant reorganization of its sales division, which includes layoffs aimed at modernizing the company and increasing its focus on artificial intelligence (AI). According to a report by Business Insider, Dell informed its employees of these changes through an internal memo that outlined plans to centralize sales teams and create a new AI-focused sales unit.

While Dell has not officially disclosed the exact number of employees affected, reports suggest that approximately 12,500 people—around 10% of Dell’s workforce—could be laid off.

The layoffs have predominantly affected managers and senior managers, some of whom have worked at Dell for over two decades. According to employees, the layoffs have also impacted marketing and operations teams. One source noted that the restructuring has increased the number of employees each manager oversees, with the new minimum being 15.

This is not the first time Dell has laid off employees in recent months. The company’s workforce has decreased from 130,000 to approximately 120,000 since February 2023. One employee remarked, “Every six months we have layoffs. There are no opportunities to move up. I have been looking for a new job outside of Dell for nine months.”
