Court rejects plea against marriage of Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi

ISLSMABAD:  The district and sessions court in the federal capital on Saturday declared the case against the marriage of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan with Bushra Bibi as non-maintainable.

Civil Judge Nasar Minallah passed the order after hearing arguments of both sides in the marriage case against Imran Khan and Bushra bibi

“The plea is in admissible,” ruled the judge, holding that it was beyond its jurisdiction as the Nikah was solemnized in Lahore.  Advocate Rizwan Abbasi who represented the petitioner argued that if the marriage was legal then why they married again.

“The marriage during the waiting period is illegal, so it is to say that if we get married on the first day of 2018, we will become prime minister.” the lawyer of the petitioner said while arguing on the case. The judge remarked that how the court could hear this matter if the marriage took place in Lahore.

The petitioner’s counsel argued that the fraud started from Bani Gala, and the marriage took place in Lahore. Even the marriage registrar was taken from Islamabad to Lahore for the marriage. Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi’s marriage was solemnized again in Islamabad in February 2018.

After the petitioner’s lawyer Raja Rizwan Abbasi completed his arguments, the court reserved its decision on the admissibility of the case against Imran Khan’s alleged illegal marriage.

Former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan tied the knot with Bushra Bibi in 2018 few months before his party won the general elections and made government in the center.

Mufti Saeed performed Nikkah during a private ceremony held in Lahore.

The legal battle started after Mufti Saeed claimed in a private TV show that the nikkah of Imran Khan with Bushra Bibi was solemnized twice. He had claimed that Bushra Bibi was observing Iddat but he was not aware of the actual situation.

Saeed said he declared the nikkah invalid after he came to know about her iddat, adding that he then again solemnized their nikkah.

Bushra Bibi had taken khula from her former husband Khawar Manika before tying the knot with Imran Khan.
