‘Citizens’ abductions are big failure of high courts’ CJs,’ says Fawad Chaudhary

  • The PTI senior vice-president regrets that the foreign citizens are given protocol when they are apprehended but the local citizens are dealt like the sects.

Lahore: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior vice-president Fawad Chaudhary urged the chief justices of the high courts, especially of the Sindh and Punjab high courts to realize their responsibilities as the citizens were being abducted from their respective jurisdictions.

Fawad Chaudhary said that Azhar Mashwani was abducted from Lahore in the day time, Shahid Hussain was also detained from the city.

He regretted that the courts were not dealing rightly with the hebeas corpus petitions as issuance of the notices for five to seven days was not the way to address such serious matters.

The PTI leader expressed these words while talking to the reporters after securing bail in another case from a local court on Saturday.

“We secured bail from the court today in another case,” said Fawad Chaudhary, adding that the case was registered for holding a press conference on the road outside Zaman Park.

“We will deal with all these cases. Khan sahib was booked in 40 terrorism cases. Khan sahib was in Lahore when he was booked in terrorism cases in Islamabad,”.

“This is the big failure of the chief justices of the high courts as the people are being abducted and missed,” said the PTI leader.

He said that he was booked in seven baseless cases.

Shahid Hussain and Azhar Mashwani, he said, were abducted from Lahore, adding that when the abductors came to know that Shahid Hussain was a British citizen they kept him in a guest house.

“Why we are not dealt with the respect? They consider our own citizens like the sects.,” he regretted, coming down hard upon the judicial system.

He said that they [the judges] should resign if they could not deal with the habeas corpus petitions.

Giving reference of an old Raymond Davis case who was given passage to fly back to his country despite his alleged involvement in a murder case, Fawad said that the foreign citizens were always dealt with protocol and the local citizens were considered as if they were the sects and not human beings.

“I ask the Lahore High Court and Sindh High Court to realize their responsibilities,” he said, urging the chief justices of the high courts to hold a meeting on the issue of the abduction.

Talking about the coalition government’s reaction to the SC hearing in elections delay case, Fawad Chaudhary said that unfortunately they targeted the top court and the judges.

He said that the Lahore Bar Association was holding a general house meeting today. He said he would like to ask all other bar associations to come forward and support the movement for the rule of law.

The bars, he said, not just condemned what was being done with the Supreme Court but should practically come forward to play their role for the rule of law and the Constitution.

Chaudhary also came down hard upon a certain group of journalists holding them responsible for attacking the courts and the judges.

He said that the social boycott of such journalists was important, saying that the fake propaganda must be countered.

“There are certain groups on Whatsapp and we know what they are doing,” he added.

The PTI leader claimed that they would win the elections and claimed that these elections would be held within 90 days as per the law.

Addressing Maryam Nawaz, he asked that what did she mean by the level playing field.

“Is it the level playing field that we are facing the cases and they are holding public gatherings?,” he asked.

“Maryam Nawaz will not find time even for packing if a real level-playing field is ensured,” he added.
