LAHORE: Famous journalist and anchor Aftab Iqbal has been arrested, according to a video message by his daughter Ayesha Noor Iqbal. She revealed that her father was taken into custody after some vehicles arrived and took him away.
It is important to note that Aftab Iqbal has been a vocal critic of the government. Previously, Imran Riaz Khan was also arrested on similar charges. The police claim that Imran Riaz Khan was attempting to leave the country from Sialkot Airport. He has been detained under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) for 30 days and will be held at Sialkot jail on the orders of the DC Sialkot.
Imran Riaz Khan’s legal counsel, Mian Ali Ashfaq, has said that they will file a petition in court to challenge the detention order.
In a video message last night, Imran Riaz Khan also claimed that he was being followed and that raids were being conducted to arrest him. He stated that he would have to leave the country as he was being threatened and harassed.
Concerns for Imran Riaz Khan’s safety have been raised by his relatives and team members, who have formed teams to monitor his situation. It is worth noting that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had to leave the country under similar circumstances when he was not allowed to speak freely.
