LAHORE: Thousands of commuters using Pakistan Railways are set to benefit as work is about to begin on a modern parking facility and adjoining park at the historic Lahore Railway Station. The initiative, backed by the Punjab government, is expected to be completed later this year.
For years, passengers arriving at the station have faced severe traffic congestion and long queues due to limited parking space. The shortage of designated parking areas has frequently caused delays, particularly during peak travel hours.
Under the new project, a dedicated parking plaza with capacity for approximately 250 to 300 vehicles will be constructed. Officials say the upgraded facility will significantly reduce traffic bottlenecks, cutting travel time to the station from hours to just minutes.
The plan also includes the construction of a dedicated bridge and improved road infrastructure to ensure smoother connectivity with various parts of Lahore. Separate access and exit routes will be developed to maintain uninterrupted traffic flow, while a direct road will link vehicles to the railway complex.
Deputy Director of the Lahore Development Authority, Faisal Shafeeh, stated that the project would be completed within the stipulated timeframe. He noted that the enhanced parking and road network would allow thousands of passengers to access the station without facing congestion.
He further explained that main roads leading to the railway station will be integrated through newly built access routes. Travelers coming specifically to catch trains will be able to use a dedicated bridge for convenient entry, while separate connecting roads will facilitate movement toward other areas of the city.
In addition to the parking and infrastructure upgrades, the station’s interior has also undergone improvements. The family lounge and VIP lounge are now operational, offering enhanced food and beverage services aimed at improving passenger comfort.
Upon completion, the project is expected to ease traffic pressure, enhance convenience for commuters, and add to the overall aesthetic appeal of the railway station, making travel to and from Lahore more efficient and comfortable.
