Opposition Leaders Protest Outside Supreme Court Demanding Immediate Hearing of Imran Khan’s Cases

Members of the opposition staged a demonstration outside the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday, urging an immediate hearing of cases concerning jailed Imran Khan and demanding that he be allowed unrestricted meetings with his family.

Concerns over Imran Khan’s health have grown in recent weeks after it was revealed in late January that he is suffering from right central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), a serious eye condition affecting his vision. Party leaders and family members have repeatedly raised alarms regarding his medical care and access to treatment.

Senate Opposition Leader Allama Nasir Abbas, PTI leader Salman Akram Raja, along with MNAs Amir Dogar, Shafiullah Jan, Muhammad Hussain, and Shahid Khattak, participated in the protest. The demonstrators gathered on the lawn outside the apex court building and held discussions on next steps.

In a statement shared on X by the opposition alliance Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan (TTAP), the group demanded that Imran be allowed family meetings and that a medical examination be conducted by his personal doctors.

Earlier this month, the Supreme Court appointed PTI lawyer Salman Safdar as amicus curiae to meet Imran. Safdar’s report to the court revealed that only 15 percent vision remains in Imran’s right eye, prompting sharp criticism from opposition leaders over the authorities’ handling of his health.

Last week, TTAP also organised a five-day sit-in at Parliament House, pressing for medical access and other demands related to Imran’s incarceration. The sit-in concluded ahead of the holy month of Ramazan.
