Murree snowfall: Authorities ban entry of tourists
Murree snowfall has prompted local authorities to impose an immediate ban on the entry of tourists as heavy snow continues to blanket the hill station, disrupting normal life and raising safety concerns.
According to officials, snowfall persisted throughout the day, forcing the district administration to remain on high alert. The decision to restrict tourist entry was taken to prevent accidents and avoid any untoward incidents amid deteriorating weather conditions.
Snow clearance operations are currently underway on major roads in Murree, but mobility in surrounding and outlying areas has been severely affected. Residents in several localities are facing power outages following the snowfall, further compounding difficulties for locals.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned that the current spell of snowfall is likely to continue until Friday evening, urging caution for travelers and residents alike.
Meanwhile, heavy snowfall has also led to the closure of Tirah Road, leaving multiple vehicles stranded. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said rescue operations are ongoing to evacuate trapped passengers and clear affected routes.
PDMA officials confirmed that stranded individuals are being provided with food and shifted to safer locations as a precautionary measure. Rescue 1122 has dispatched 15 trained personnel from Peshawar to Tirah to assist in relief efforts, while ambulances, recovery vehicles, medical supplies, and rescue equipment have also been deployed.
The Director General PDMA has directed all district administrations to remain vigilant amid worsening weather conditions. A PDMA spokesperson said the situation is being monitored closely to ensure swift response and effective coordination across the province.
Authorities have strongly advised citizens and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel on snow-affected routes until weather conditions improve, stressing that public safety remains the top priority.
