RAWALPINDI: DG ISPR, NPAC vow zero tolerance on takfiri narratives as Director General Inter-Services Public Relations Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry and prominent religious scholars of the National Peace Message Committee (NPAC) on Tuesday agreed to jointly counter hate speech, sectarianism, and extremist ideologies, ARY News reported.

The understanding was reached during a meeting held at General Headquarters (GHQ), Rawalpindi, between the DG ISPR and an NPAC delegation led by its chairman Hafiz Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi. The meeting focused on national security challenges, internal stability, and the role of religious leadership in promoting unity.

During the interaction, ulema and mashaikh expressed complete solidarity with the Pakistan Armed Forces and reaffirmed their commitment to countering anti-state narratives and hostile propaganda targeting the country. The NPAC assured full cooperation in strengthening the national narrative at all levels.

The committee strongly condemned Fitna-al-Khawarij (FAK) as well as the Afghan Taliban, asserting that terrorism and violence have no justification in Islam under any circumstances. The scholars emphasised that extremist ideologies threaten national cohesion and social harmony.

It was mutually agreed to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against hate speech, sectarianism, and takfiri narratives, with a coordinated approach involving state institutions and religious platforms. The NPAC announced plans to disseminate messages of Islamic unity, tolerance, and constitutional equality through mosques and other religious forums across the country.

The committee also proposed expanding awareness and guidance programmes in mosques, madaris, and universities to effectively promote the state’s narrative and counter extremist propaganda among the youth.

Speaking on the occasion, DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry underscored that unity and consensus on matters of national security are the need of the hour. He said a comprehensive discussion was held on internal security challenges in the context of Fitna-al-Khawarij, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and Tehreek-e-Taliban Afghanistan, reinforcing a shared and unified stance.

Reiterating Pakistan’s principled position on Kashmir and Gaza, the DG ISPR said supporting oppressed peoples remains Pakistan’s moral and diplomatic responsibility. He stressed that public awareness and a truth-based national narrative are critical in countering the enemy’s psychological and information warfare.

Terming the meeting highly productive, the Director General ISPR expressed optimism that continued engagement and cooperation would further strengthen trust and contribute to lasting peace and stability in the country.
