YouTuber Rajab Butt assaulted on Karachi City Court premises
KARACHI: YouTuber Rajab Butt was allegedly assaulted by a group of lawyers during his appearance at the Karachi City Court on Monday, leaving him injured and triggering a tense situation on the court premises.
According to details, Rajab Butt had arrived at the City Court along with Nadeem Naniwala to seek interim bail in a case registered against him. Shortly after entering the court compound, a group of lawyers reportedly attacked him without provocation.
Eyewitnesses said the YouTuber was beaten and sustained injuries to his jaw and mouth, resulting in visible bleeding. His clothes were also torn during the assault. Rajab Butt’s legal counsel attempted to intervene and stop the attack but was initially unsuccessful.
Court staff and police personnel later reached the scene and managed to disperse the attackers, bringing the situation under control after several minutes of chaos.
Initial reports suggest that Rajab Butt had come to the court for legal proceedings related to a blasphemy-linked case registered at Haidery Police Station. He had already obtained interim bail in the matter prior to Monday’s hearing.
It is pertinent to note that earlier this month, Rajab Butt was deported from the United Kingdom after the UK Home Department cancelled his visa for allegedly concealing details of criminal cases registered against him in Pakistan.
Videos of the incident circulated widely on social media, sparking outrage and raising serious concerns about security arrangements inside court premises. No official statement had been issued by the police or the bar association at the time of filing this report.
