Govt to set protocol for Imran Khan sons’ Pakistan visit: Rana Sanaullah

Imran Khan sons Pakistan visit protocol to be finalised before January visit

The federal government will establish a formal protocol for the planned visit of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s sons to Pakistan, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah said on Thursday, citing security and legal considerations.

Speaking on ARY News programme Off the Record, Rana Sanaullah stated that the government would ensure all arrangements are made in advance if Kasim and Suleiman Khan visit Pakistan solely to meet their father. He said that such meetings would be conducted with full protocol and strictly in accordance with the law.

“If they are coming only for meetings, the government will ensure their meetings are conducted properly with full protocol,” he said, adding that Imran Khan’s sons may be allowed to meet him two or three times before returning. He also clarified that Imran Khan’s sisters would similarly be permitted to meet him only under existing legal provisions.

Highlighting security concerns, Rana Sanaullah warned against allowing Imran Khan’s sons to participate in public rallies or processions, saying it could lead to national embarrassment and create law and order challenges. He stressed that the government should not permit their involvement in political gatherings.

On jail visitation, the adviser said that any meetings would be facilitated strictly in line with jail rules and High Court directives, with jail authorities implementing the decisions under government oversight.

Rana Sanaullah also criticised PTI’s political approach, alleging that Imran Khan promotes a narrative of resistance that could lead to armed confrontation. Referring to events on May 25, May 9 and November 26, 2024, he claimed these were attempts to incite unrest and challenge the state through violent means.

Commenting on gatherings outside Adiala Jail, he said such efforts were ineffective and warned that continued pressure could compel authorities to consider transferring Imran Khan to another facility. He noted that while large numbers assemble during the day, only a small group remains by night.

The adviser further criticised PTI’s international lobbying, alleging that the party previously attempted to influence US elections and members of Congress without achieving any tangible results.

He concluded by reiterating that the government remains committed to allowing family meetings in accordance with legal and security protocols, while making it clear that public rallies or political activities during the visit would not be allowed.
