DPM Dar Says Govt Engages in Diplomatic Efforts for Safe Return of Mushtaq Ahmed from Israeli Custody

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has intensified diplomatic efforts to secure the safe return of former Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, who remains in Israeli custody after the interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters.

According to the Foreign Office (FO), all other Pakistani nationals who were on board the flotilla have been released. However, Mushtaq Ahmad Khan continues to be detained. Officials confirmed that Islamabad has been in close contact with friendly nations over the past 36 hours to expedite his release.

“The Government of Pakistan has been closely following the situation concerning the Sumud Flotilla and taking all possible steps to ensure the safety of our nationals,” the FO said in its statement.

The flotilla, which was carrying humanitarian aid for Palestinians in Gaza, was intercepted earlier this week by Israeli forces. The mission, described by rights groups and international activists as a peaceful effort to deliver assistance, has sparked global criticism.

Pakistan strongly condemned the Israeli action, calling it an “interception and obstruction” of humanitarian relief. Islamabad urged Israel to release all detained participants immediately and ensure that humanitarian aid reaches civilians in the besieged enclave without hindrance.

Deputy Prime Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting its citizens abroad and vowed to continue engaging with international partners until Mushtaq Ahmad Khan returns safely to Pakistan.

The Pakistani government also reiterated its unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, emphasizing the urgent need for unimpeded humanitarian access to Gaza. Officials called for an end to restrictions that have worsened the humanitarian crisis in the region.
