CCTV footage of child kidnapping from Lahore General Hospital released
LAHORE – September 3, 2025: Police have released CCTV footage showing the kidnapping of a newborn child from the nursery of Lahore General Hospital, sparking outrage over a major security lapse.
The footage shows two burqa-clad women abducting the infant, hiding him under their attire before fleeing in a rickshaw parked outside the hospital premises.
Authorities have lodged an FIR against the unidentified women and appealed to the public for help in identifying the suspects.
The father of the newborn, Muhammad Afzal, alleged that his two-day-old son was kidnapped due to the gross negligence of hospital staff.
Professor Farooq Afzal, Principal of Lahore General Hospital, confirmed that strict action is being taken, with two employees already suspended for negligence. He assured that the hospital is fully cooperating with law enforcement and that such security failures will not be tolerated.
The hospital’s Medical Superintendent (MS) added that anyone providing credible information leading to the identification of the suspects would remain anonymous and would be given certificates of appreciation.
Police have said that recovery efforts are underway and that they are working on multiple leads to trace the culprits.
