100 more electric buses dispatched to Pakistan from China
LAHORE: A fresh fleet of 100 modern electric buses has been dispatched from China to Pakistan, reported on Tuesday.
According to details, the consignment left Shanghai Sea Port and will reach Punjab within the next few weeks. The initiative is part of Punjab’s transport modernization plan aimed at introducing affordable, eco-friendly public transport across the province.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said that by December, electric buses will be operational in every district of Punjab. She added that the fare for these state-of-the-art buses has been fixed at just Rs20, making modern urban transport accessible for the public.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the introduction of electric buses will provide people with a comfortable, safe, and environmentally friendly transportation system while reducing reliance on conventional fuel.
Earlier this year in February, Lahore had already received 11 electric buses from China as part of a pilot project. In the first phase, 27 buses were launched, with charging facilities set up in Green Town. Each bus has a seating capacity of 60 passengers.
The Punjab Transport Department, which has taken over the operation of the buses, also confirmed that tenders have been issued for Faisalabad and Bahawalpur, signaling further expansion of the service.
The arrival of 100 more electric buses from China marks a significant milestone for Punjab’s eco-friendly transport network, offering commuters an affordable and modern alternative to traditional public transport.
