Two brothers were killed in Lahore for Rs30: Murders over petty disputes
LAHORE: The alarming rise in killings over petty disputes has once again shaken Pakistan as two brothers were brutally beaten to death in Raiwind, Lahore, over a dispute of only Rs30, reported on Tuesday.
According to police, Wajid and Rashid had purchased a dozen bananas for Rs130 but only had a Rs100 note and a Rs5000 note. A heated argument broke out with the fruit vendor over the remaining Rs30. The situation escalated when the vendor called his associates, who attacked the two brothers with sticks and punches, eventually killing them on the spot.
Eyewitnesses revealed that dozens of bystanders watched the violent attack but no one intervened. Instead, many filmed the entire tragedy on their mobile phones. The altercation reportedly lasted for hours, but police failed to arrive in time to prevent the murders.
In another shocking case in Gujrat, a dispute during a cricket match turned deadly when a player opened fire after being denied a chance to bowl. The gunfire killed team captain Fakhar Iqbal and his brother, while their uncle was critically injured. Police later arrested the suspect and registered a case.
Experts warn that the growing number of violent incidents over minor disagreements reflects rising frustration and intolerance in society. They stress that families and teachers must instill patience and emotional control in the younger generation. “Our religion Islam teaches peace and tolerance. Parents should ensure children are not brought up with excessive aggression that leads to such tragedies,” experts added.
The incident of two killed for Rs30 in Lahore highlights how minor disputes are now escalating into life-threatening violence, raising concerns about law enforcement, social behavior, and the collective mindset of society.
