West Indies Win Second ODI Against Pakistan to Level Series 1-1
TRINIDAD – The West Indies defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the rain-interrupted second One Day International (ODI) at Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, leveling the three-match series at 1-1. The decisive third ODI will be played on Tuesday at the same venue.
Chasing a revised target of 181 runs in 35 overs under the Duckworth–Lewis–Stern (DLS) method, the West Indies reached 184-5 in 33.2 overs. Roston Chase starred with an unbeaten 49 off 47 balls, which included two sixes and a match-winning boundary.
The hosts were given a strong start but faltered from 101-3 to 111-5 after Sherfane Rutherford’s dismissal. Rutherford’s quickfire 45 off 33 balls featured three sixes and four boundaries, putting pressure on Pakistan’s bowlers. However, Chase, alongside Justin Greaves (26 off 31 balls), rebuilt the innings, forming a crucial 77-run partnership for the sixth wicket to seal the win.
Earlier, Pakistan struggled with the bat after being put in to bat first. Rain interruptions reduced their innings to 37 overs, in which they managed 171-7. Hasan Nawaz top-scored with a brisk 36* off 30 balls, continuing his good form after scoring an unbeaten 63 in the first ODI. His knock included three sixes, two of them in the final over before rain stopped play again. Hussain Talat contributed 31 runs, but most batters failed to score at a quick pace, with captain Mohammad Rizwan falling for just 16 off 38 balls to spinner Gudakesh Motie.
Jayden Seales was the standout bowler for the West Indies, taking 3 wickets for 23 runs in seven overs, applying consistent pressure on Pakistan’s batting lineup.
For the second ODI, Pakistan made three changes, bringing in Mohammad Nawaz, Hasan Ali, and Abrar Ahmed for Faheem Ashraf, Naseem Shah, and Sufiyan Muqeem. The West Indies replaced Romario Shepherd with Justin Greaves.
With the series now tied 1-1, the third and final ODI will be the decider, promising another thrilling contest between the two sides.
