Indian surveillance drone captured in Lahore amid escalating border tensions

LAHORE: Pakistani security forces have captured an Indian surveillance drone in the Jandiala Road area of Manawan, Lahore, in the latest sign of rising tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

According to SP Cantt Qazi Ali Raza, the seized drone was a hexacopter model believed to have originated from across the border. Local police have secured the device, and sensitive intelligence agencies have launched a full-scale investigation.

“Initial findings indicate the drone was used for surveillance purposes,” said SP Raza, adding that more details will emerge following forensic analysis.

Previous drone interceptions

This incident follows an earlier case where the Pakistan Army intercepted and downed an Indian quadcopter in the Manawar sector of Bhimber along the Line of Control (LoC). Security officials stated that the quadcopter was attempting reconnaissance when it was shot down by army personnel.

Rising hostilities after Pahalgam incident

Officials have linked this latest airspace violation to a broader pattern of provocations from India following the Pahalgam incident, where Indian authorities escalated threats and adopted aggressive postures toward Pakistan.

Security analysts believe the drone incursion is a deliberate act of hostility, testing Pakistan’s defensive readiness.

Pakistan’s military response

Military sources emphasize that the Pakistan Army maintains high alert across all sensitive border points and is “fully prepared to counter any form of aggression.”

“Our vigilance and capability remain unmatched, and the nation stands united in defending its sovereignty,” a senior military official stated.

International concerns

International observers warn that such incidents could increase the risk of miscalculation, with potential repercussions for regional stability. The United Nations has previously urged both countries to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could escalate into a wider conflict.
