KARACHI: In a disturbing case of domestic violence, a man kills wife in Lyari area, suspecting that she was talking to someone on the phone, police confirmed on Wednesday.
The victim, Bakhtawar, a 45-year-old mother of seven, was reportedly involved in a verbal altercation with her husband Nawab just moments before the incident. Neighbors said they heard loud shouting from the couple’s home, followed by gunshots.
According to police, Nawab suspected his wife of speaking to someone inappropriately over the phone — a phone they shared as a couple. In a fit of rage, he allegedly used a 30-bore pistol to shoot her during the argument.
Local residents immediately informed authorities. Police arrived promptly at the scene, arrested Nawab, and recovered the murder weapon from his possession.
Victim’s Family Silent
Tragically, Bakhtawar’s family has not come forward to register a case or even claim her body. She worked as a cleaner at a private school, trying to support her seven children — four daughters and three sons.
Neighbours described Nawab as a “quiet and friendly man,” and expressed shock over the sudden escalation to violence. With no relatives stepping forward, concerned neighbors arranged for the body to be moved to the morgue.
FIR to Be Filed by the State
Police officials stated that if the family continues to remain absent, they will proceed to register a First Information Report (FIR) under state protection and carry out legal action against the accused.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing issue of domestic violence and unchecked rage within households, prompting calls for greater awareness and intervention.
Cases like Bakhtawar’s are not isolated. In another recent incident, a Kyrgyzstan-returned MBBS student was shot dead by her own brother in what is being described as an ‘honour’ killing.
