A tragic accident occurred in Sindh’s Larkana district when four young girls from the same family drowned in a pond in Badah’s Sahib Khan Malano village, ARY News reported. The victims—3-year-old Bushra, 4-year-old Humaira, and 7-year-old twins Amna and Ghulam Fatima—were bathing when Bushra and Humaira slipped into deep water. In a desperate attempt to rescue them, Amna and Ghulam Fatima also entered the pond and drowned.
Local police stated that the girls’ bodies were brought home in the village, where grief and tears ensued. The family declined a post-mortem examination, adding to the sorrow and finality of the tragedy .
Such heartbreaking incidents, particularly involving children near unguarded water bodies, highlight a recurring safety concern across rural Pakistan. Similar cases have occurred in nearby districts during the summer, with little to no safety infrastructure around ponds and canals .
Authorities are urging parents and guardians to maintain constant supervision of children around all water bodies. Local leaders and police officials have also flagged the urgent need for awareness campaigns and safety measures, such as fencing off dangerous ponds, installing warning signs, and organizing community-rescue training in villages like Badah.
In another incident of drowning, a youth of Karachi visiting Thar Parkar, was drowned in Maya dam in Nangarparkar during visit of Karoonjhar hills, officials said on Monday.
As another summer weekend begins, Sindh authorities are reminded once again that simple safety precautions could vastly reduce the risk of such tragic drownings. The community mourns deeply for the four young lives lost, and hopes that this incident will bring renewed efforts toward water safety in rural areas.
